As a single mama rest can sometimes feel like dirty 4 letter word. Like most women we feel if we rest it takes away from a chore we should be doing. But for single parents this every present feeling that we are not doing enough doubles since we are the main caregiver, financial provider, & taxi driver along with chief cook an bottle washer (as my dad used to say). Being a single Mama is all the more reason to follow Gods command to rest. Yesterday, Sunday afternoon, as I was tackling the mile long list of things I thought I needed to do today I felt the Holy Spirit gently whisper to my heart. "Rest, savor the beauty of this day that's been given to you." So I sat down to happily enjoy the view from my couch. This was...HARD. I had a million things to do, I had to make a list and then check off the things I had "done" before going to bed that night. Sundays are after all just prep days for Mondays right?! Let me share this with you ladies... You have a responsibility to take care of yourself. Our heavenly Father designed the world to include a time of rest to refresh and renew your mind and body. And after I spent some time resting I found I was more able to accomplish what I had wanted to! The crumbs will be there to sweep up later, along with the laundry an all the other things I had deemed important to do on a Sunday afternoon. I focused on obeying this command an taking rest. When do you plan to rest? “You must remember to keep the Sabbath a special day. 9 You may work six days a week to do your job. 10 But the seventh day is a day of rest in honor of the Lord your God. So on that day no one should work—not you, your sons and daughters, or your men and women slaves. Even your animals and the foreigners living in your cities must not work! 11 That is because the Lord worked six days and made the sky, the earth, the sea, and everything in them. And on the seventh day, he rested. In this way the Lord blessed the Sabbath—the day of rest. He made that a very special day.
